Join the RISE VISTA Program

AmeriCorps VISTA members serve as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to meet our nation’s most pressing challenges and advance local solutions.

RISE VISTA members serve with organizations, agencies, and educational institutions throughout California. Members serve for one year and provide capacity-building support through fundraising, program development, community outreach, and volunteer recruitment and management.

Members receive a living allowance, a generous education award, professional experience, free training, and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on their communities.

Eligible applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States, at least 18 years of age at the commencement of service, complete an application packet, and complete the National Service Criminal History Check

​The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Sacramento has led the way in child protection efforts, pioneering successful child abuse prevention programs that have become models for other groups throughout California and the nation. The VISTA member will work with program and development teams to expand fundraising and grant opportunities, build and strengthen the volunteer base through active coordination with partner agencies and community outreach to facilitate and participate in fundraising events, and promote the advancement of CAPC Programs through funds development.

RISE VISTA Leader

VISTA Leaders coach fellow VISTA members, motivate prospects to become VISTA members, create a supportive community for VISTA members to reflect on their service, develop professionally while in service, and gain new resources and information. VISTA Leaders monitor activities as it relates to VISTA members and may be involved in discipline and redirecting activities. The RISE VISTA Leader has successfully completed at least one year of VISTA service, or one term of full-time service with either AmeriCorps State and National or AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), or at least one term of Peace Corps service.

Collaborative Advancement VISTA

The VISTA member will work with the CAPC AmeriCorps teams to expand community outreach, build social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies, and promote the transformational impact of our programs on populations with whom we work. Our partner agencies will become more efficient and effective through increased community awareness, resulting in an increase in volunteer and national service participant interest, retention and new partnerships with institutions of higher learning and local business/foundations.

​The KidsFirst RISE VISTA member will be serving out of the Roseville and Auburn family resource centers. The goals is to increase individual and business donations, staff outreach events, and assist with overall community development. This will allow KidsFirst to increase availability of programs and services for families in need. The ideal candidate is proficient in social media, has intermediate level computer skills and presentation skills.

The Siskiyou Community Resource Collaborative (SCRC) is a grass-roots, community driven non-profit that responds to the needs of our communities by finding programs and activities that will support community health and well-being. The VISTA will play an important fundraising and outreach role on our small and highly collaborative team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing nonprofit and play a meaningful role in addressing the poverty challenges facing Siskiyou County children and families.

The VISTA member will support San Luis Obispo County’s system of family strengthening resources and child abuse prevention services, such as parent education support, home visiting services, and substance abuse prevention programs. Activities include conducting grant research and assisting with grant writing, creating and monitoring programming, conducting strategic community outreach, generating custom child abuse data reports, helping to develop local child abuse prevention program data sharing platforms, and engaging key stakeholders and volunteers

Reality Changers is a San Diego-based non-profit organization that transforms lives by providing youth from disadvantaged backgrounds with the academic support, financial assistance, and leadership training to become college graduates. We seek a proactive and detail-oriented VISTA member to contribute across 3 key functions (fundraising, external communications, and events) to enable Reality Changers to meet its annual fund development goal. During their service, the member will learn about the internal operations of a growing non-profit organization, receive professional development, and have the opportunity to contribute to several key external events.

The AmeriCorps RISE VISTA member will serve as a Community Engagement Liaison at the Fruit Ridge Community Collaborative (FRCC), a joint-use space housing more than 20 organizations offering services to help at-risk youth and families thrive. The VISTA member will work to increase the scale and reach of FRCC, connecting community members with services and programs, and drive collaboration among organizations to build capacity for the site to serve the community.

Oakland, CA

Chapter 510 believes that when young people can confidently write, they transform themselves and their communities for the better. Chapter 510 is launching a three-year, $3 million dollar comprehensive fundraising campaign that when complete will enable us to serve greater numbers of Oakland’s young writers. Our Fund Development VISTA will be essential in ensuring this campaign is successful in raising funds for, and awareness of, our programs, and will work with our Executive Director and Director of Development.

The Community Engagement Center (CEC) at Sacramento State helps students become aware of, and respond to, local and global community issues through Service Learning, Volunteerism and Academic Internships. The CEC is one of many resources on campus which provides students with opportunities to participate in volunteer activities with local community organizations. The VISTA member will build on the work of the previous VISTA and implement the newly created volunteer system for the campus to help students find both off and on campus volunteer opportunities.

The VISTA will strengthen parent & family voice and capacity through the expansion of our volunteer program and will help diversify funding sources for the organization, ensuring our ability to endure for years to come. The position will be responsible for both Volunteer Sourcing and Stewardship, including training and support and External Program Support, including data reporting and program presentation as required. The position will learn about all aspects of fundraising including grant writing, corporate solicitation, fee-for-service models, major donor cultivation, and grassroots appeals.
